1. How often should I have an eye examination?

We recommend a full eye examination every two years for most adults. We recommend every year if you wear glasses or contact lenses, have a family history of eye conditions, or are over 60. At Rachel Murray Eyecare, our comprehensive 45 minute eye exam goes beyond just checking your prescription. We use the latest technology including Zeiss and Optos retinal scanning to check the full health of your eyes.

2. What’s the difference between an eye test and an eye examination?

They’re the same thing! Whether you call it an eye test, eye exam or eye examination, it all refers to the same appointment. At Rachel Murray Eyecare we asses the overall health of your eyes from front to back.

3. My prescription has changed, do I need new glasses straight away?

Not necessarily. Small changes in prescription are normal, especially as we age. Our team will advice you honestly on whether your current glasses are still suitable or whether new lenses would improve your vision. We never recommend new glasses unless they will make a real difference to you.

4. How do I know which frames suit my face?

This is exactly what your free eyewear style consultation is for! Our experienced team will guide you through frames shapes, colour and materials that complement your features, skin tone and lifestyle. With exclusive brands, we’ll find something that feels like it was made just for you.

5. Can I get designer glasses on budget?

We stock eyewear across a range of price points, and we always focus on finding the right frame for you. We also offer a range of independent boutique brands that offer exceptional quality and individuality at more accessible price than traditional luxury labels.

6. Why should I choose an independent optician over chain?

At Rachel Murray Eyecare, you’ll never feel rushed. We take the time to truly understand your vision needs and your personal style. As an award-winning independent shop; our team has over 40 years of combined experience. We also stock exclusive eyewear brands you simply  won’t find on the high street.

7. How should I care for my glasses every day?

  • Always use a microfibre cloth to clean your lenses. Never paper, tissue or clothing which can cause tiny scratches over time
  • Use a proper lens cleaning spray rather than water or household products which can damage lens coatings
  • Store your glasses in a case when you’re not wearing them to protect the frames and lenses
  • Never leave your glasses in the car. Extreme heat can warp frames and damage lens coatings

When you purchase your glasses at Rachel Murray Eyecare, we include a lens cleaning spray and a microfibres cloth with every pair. Everything you need to keep. Your glasses looking their best from day one.
